With Mortimer Plumtree

[Interview conducted by Tony D. on June 4, 2001]
TD: What's your real name, and what gimmicks have/do you use?
MP: I am only one - Mortimer Plumtree!
TD: What height/weight are you?
MP: 6'1", 200 lbs., but am currently on the fabulous Suzanne Sommers
diet, trying to shed some nasty excess.
TD: What circuits do you currently work in?
MP: Steel Domain/St. Paul Championship in Minnesota and NWA Midwest out
of Chicago.
TD: What circuits have you worked in?
MP: American Wrestling Federation (Alperstein's), Pro Wrestling America,
Northern Premier Wrestling, All-American Wrestling, Midwest Pro
Wrestling, All-Star Wrestling Association, Ultimate Championship
Wrestling, French Lake Wrestling Association - basically, every group in
Minnesota and branching into Wisconsin and Iowa.
TD: What wrestlers do you manage?
MP: Currently, I proudly stand behind 'Sexy' Ace Steel, Danny Dominion
and 'Iron' Mike Samson. My greatest claim to fame, though, is
managing Lenny Lane.
TD: What titles have they held (while you managed them)?
MP: You mean what titles HAVEN'T they held?! SDW Heavyweight,
SDW Light-Heavyweight, SDW Television, SDW Tag, NWA Midwest
Heavyweight, NPW Heavyweight, PWA Heavyweight, PWA Tag,
FLWA Heavyweight, AAW Heavyweight.
TD: When did you decide to get into wrestling?
MP: When I was twelve years old and started watching wrestling, I
immediately knew it was where I wanted to be. Especially while
watching Nick Bockwinkle, Jim Brunzell and Buzz Sawyer.
TD: And how did you get started?
MP: I had tried for years to break in, still during the time you couldn't
break in unless you knew somebody. I went to the AWA offices, I
contacted Patera, Sheik, promoters... Finally, Mick Karch, who I had
struck up a friendship with, brought me into the studio to cut a
few spots. He helped get me booked on the initial shows and it took
off from there.
TD: Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
MP: Lenny Lane, Nick Bockwinkle, Bobby Heenan and Mick Karch.
TD: What has been the greatest moment of your career?
MP: Anytime I get to do what I love is the greatest moment to me. I have
been extremely fortunate to work with the people I do.
TD: Who are/were you trained by? What kind of athletic background do you
have before you got into wrestling?
MP: I was in wrestling in junior high and judo in college. My focus,
however, was always acting and I went to one of the better training
programs in the Midwest for it. For the ring, JB Trask, Horace
the Psychopath and Lenny helped me the most.
TD: Who is your favorite wrestler to work with?
MP: Without a doubt, Lenny Lane.
TD: Any major enemies? If so, who, and why?
MP: My enemies make themselves - I make champions!
TD: In which promotion are you the most over?
MP: Steel Domain Wrestling in West St. Paul, Minnesota.
TD: Do you ever consider working in the WWF or WCW if they are interested
in your talent?
MP: Of course!
TD: If you had to pick WWF or WCW, where would you go and why?
MP: I would be a better fit in WCW. I don't have implants and I don't
look good nude....so that's where I should really be!
TD: Do you have a computer? If so, what do you think of the reporters
and sheet writers on the internet?
MP: Yep, finally got one this spring. I appreciate those who do an
earnest job of reporting real news. I stick with those who have a clean
reputation and steer clear of the gossip mongers. This is the age of
the computer. It's a valuable tool for everyone in the business. Some
of the boys don't realize that yet (hint hint!)
TD: Do you have a college degree or any other higher education?
MP: I have a Bachelor's degree in Acting.
TD: Any advice you'd give a wannabe wrestler?
MP: Be VERY selective in your training. Save yourself time and money by
doing your homework in researching camps! Also, you will never know
everything, so always expect to learn.
TD: Any final comments for the readers?
MP: For those who are saying, "Who the poo-goo is Mortimer Plumtree?!"
I invite you to check out www.mortimerplumtree.com. For those who
know and have followed, thank you!!! And thank you, Tony!
