Q U E S T I O N S F O R T H E P R O S:
With Mike Quackenbush
_________________________________________________________________
[Interview conducted by Tony D. on May 25, 2000]
TD: What's your real name, and what gimmicks have/do you use?
MQ: I've been the same character, more or less, for the last eight and a half
years. I started out as Mike Quackenbush, and four years ago, I added the
"Lightning" part of it.
TD: What height/weight are you?
MQ: 6 foot, and 191 pounds.
TD: What circuits do you currently wrestle in?
MQ: FWA, IPW, WWC, UWC, NEW, CWA, APWF, MCW....
TD: What circuits have you wrestled in?
MQ: PCW, ECWA, NWA, IWU, SCW, LAW, MSPW....
TD: What titles have you held?
MQ: PCW Junior Heavy, PCW 6 Man, PCW Tag Team (2), FWA Heavyweight (2),
SCW Junior, SCW Lord of the Dance, IWU Light Heavyweight,
IPW Light Heavyweight, some others I can't think of
off the top of my head...
TD: When did you decide to become a wrestler?
MQ: I saw a Jushin Liger/Brian Pillman match that changed everything for
me. I knew at that moment I wanted to wrestle. Within 6 months,
I was wrestling.
TD: Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
MQ: Jushin Liger is at the top, with the original Tiger Mask right behind.
In terms of personal guidance, Ace Darling really taught me a lot.
TD: What has been the greatest moment of your career?
MQ: In April, I wrestled El Hijo del Santo to a time limit draw for the
FWA title. When the match was over, Santo was supposed to leave the
ring, so I could cut a promo. Instead, he brought the FWA title to
me, and strapped it around my waste. That moment will always stay
with me.
TD: Who are/were you trained by? What kind of athletic background do you
have before you became a wrestler?
MQ: I guess Ace Darling should really get the credit there. He taught me
more than any other single wrestler. I played every sport imaginable
in high school, but once I started wrestling, the rest sort of
slipped away.
TD: Who is your favorite wrestler to work with in the ring?
MQ: Probably Don Montoya. I always have a good time with him.
TD: In which promotion are you the most over?
MQ: That's a difficult question. I suppose FWA would be the answer. I always
got a good reaction from NEW crowds.
TD: Do you ever consider working in the WWF, WCW or in ECW if they are
interested in your talent?
MQ: I've considered it. I don't know that any major company in the United
States would be a good place to do what I love to do. I'm not about
sports entertainment. I'm about wrestling. And there's very little of
that in the American pro-wrestling scene.
TD: If you had to pick WWF, WCW or ECW, where would you go? And why?
MQ: WWF has a lot of guys I'd love to work with, like the Hardys,
Sho Funaki, Taka Michinoku, Malenko, Guerrero, Rios, so on
and so forth. ECW has Tajiri, Super Crazy, and a few other
talented wrestlers as well. If I had to pick, I guess I'd pick WWF,
because they have more guys on their roster that I think I would
enjoy wrestling.
TD: Do you have a computer? If so, what do you think of the reporters and
sheet writers on the internet?
MQ: I only have Coleco.
TD: Any advice you'd give a wannabe wrestler?
MQ: Get your college degree before you jump into wrestling. Save up plenty
of money before you start. If you think you're going to make much money
starting a career in wrestling, you're sadly mistaken.
TD: Any final comments for the readers?
MQ: When you're bored, drop by my website: www.wrestlesource.com/qhq/
