With Grenade

[Interview conducted by Tony D. on March 27, 2001]
TD: What's your real name, and what gimmicks have/do you use?
GRENADE: That's classified information. When I was a student I wrestled a
couple of times as Rick Mason.
TD: What height/weight are you?
GRENADE: I'm 6'0¨ and I weigh 195 - 200 lbs
TD: What circuits do you currently wrestle in?
GRENADE: My home is OPW Professional Wrestling in Tulsa, OK. The website is
oklapro.com. I also wrestle for UHW and CSCW.
TD: What circuits have you wrestled in?
GRENADE: See above.
TD: What titles have you held?
GRENADE: OPW Light-Heavyweight Championship
TD: When did you decide to get into wrestling?
GRENADE: I've wanted to be a wrestler for as long as I can remember. It was
April of 1999 when I began my training.
TD: And how did you get started?
GRENADE: A friend of mine told me about OPW and their training school. I went
to check it out and decided I was going to do it.
TD: Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
GRENADE: There have been many. I try to learn from everyone I can. I guess
the veterans that I feel influenced me the most are Malice, Ian
St. James, and the Great Bolo. As far as people you would know,
I'd have to say Jimmy Superfly Snuka, Ricky Steamboat, Ric Flair
and the Midnight Express.
TD: What has been the greatest moment of your career?
GRENADE: Two-moments really stick out in my mind. My debut in OPW as
Grenade, and in Wichita, KS after beating Northern Threat in a
Tag-Team match. 1000+ people can get REAL loud.
TD: Who are/were you trained by? What kind of athletic background do you
have before you got into wrestling?
GRENADE: I was trained at the OPW Professional Wrestling School. They utilize
their veteran talent to give the students the attention that is
needed to create well-rounded wrestlers.
TD: Who is your favorite wrestler to work with?
GRENADE: I would have to say that would be Ichiban of the International
Cartel. He's a great worker and a tough SOB.
TD: Any major enemies? If so, who, and why?
GRENADE: I'd say my arch-rival would have to be Joey "Da Bull" Cassanova. We
started about the same time, and he's the one who took my
Championship away from me. I also hate Northern Threat, their ring
music is the Canadian National anthem. Yuck!!
TD: In which promotion are you the most over?
GRENADE: Definitely OPW. The Casualties of War are a mainstay there. The
crowd always seems to love us.
TD: Do you ever consider working in the WWF, WCW or ECW if they are
interested in your talent?
GRENADE: I'd have to say that's the ultimate goal for any professional
wrestler. I'd love to do it, but I'm having a heckuva lot of fun
wrestling for the fastest growing Independent Organization around
at OPW.
TD: If you had to pick WWF, WCW or ECW, where would you go and why?
GRENADE: IF I had my choice, I'd say WCW, they pay more attention to the
wrestling part of the business. But I'm in no position to be picky.
TD: Do you have a computer? If so, what do you think of the reporters and
sheet writers on the internet?
GRENADE: Yes, I have a computer. I really have no opinion on them. They give
me something to read while I'm at my "other¨ job.
TD: Do you have a college degree or any other higher education?
GRENADE: I'm a few hours away from obtaining my Bachelor of Science in
Technology.
TD: Any advice you'd give a wannabe wrestler?
GRENADE: Stay away from the back-yard stuff. It's only going to get you hurt.
There are plenty of "real¨ wrestling schools out there. Go to one,
learn the business, and have fun.
TD: Any final comments for the readers?
GRENADE: Thanks for the support. And remember, there are other wrestling
options out there besides the "Big 3¨. Go out and enjoy your local
independent wrestling organization. You might be surprised at what
you find. Check out the following websites:
